| Application Deadline(s) | -1st of June is the deadline for students applying for the
1st semester and for the whole academic year; -1st of November is the deadline for students coming for the 2nd semester. |
| Academic Calendar | The academic calendar is defined every year, but it usually follows
the following format: 1st semester: from the end of September until the middle of February (including the examination period) 2nd semester: from the middle of February until the end of July (including the examination period). |

Office of their home institution which is responsible for forwarding

| Language courses offered | The GRI offers an Intensive Portuguese Language Course of about
60 hours (during 3 or 4 weeks) in the beginning of each semester.
It is aimed at providing the basic tools of the Portuguese language
in order to make things easier for you when classes begin and in your
daily life in Portugal. As soon as the dates of the course are determined,
the GRI will contact you to check your interest in participating in
it. For further information you should contact the GRI. |
| Orientation/Welcome Programme | Is it offered? Yes X No ? If yes, specify the dates: from: to: It usually takes place on the first day of each academic year. Each year, the GRI organises an Orientation Day, which allows foreign
students to get to know Universidade do Minho. During this day you
will visit the university’s facilities and receive information
concerning your enrolment and your study period among us. You will
also get to know the GRI Team as well as all other foreign students.
It is important to highlight that all exchange students at Universidade
do Minho must participate in this Orientation Day in order to get
all the relevant information for their stay period in Portugal. |
| Visa and other permits | Students from non EU-countries must obtain a study visa before departure
from their home country. It can be request at the nearest Portuguese
Embassy or Consulate. It is absolutely preponderant that you take
care of this matter at your home country. Upon arrival in Portugal, foreign students, except EU countries’ students, need to contact the Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras, in order to report their study period at Universidade do Minho. |
| Insurances required | Health Insurance: Compulsory to be taken before
arrival in the host country.
School Insurance: All exchange students may benefit
from a school insurance, which covers all accidents that occur at
the University’s facilities, outside the facilities (during
formally organised curricular activities) and on the way to and
back the university and the official residence. This insurance must
be taken upon enrolment at the International Relations Office of
Universidade do Minho, requiring the payment of approximately
2,5€/ student. Furthermore, there is a Student Health Service, free of charge, located in both campi. Appointments should be made in advance in the respective campi or at the Social Services. |
| How to reach the institution | The nearest airport to Braga and Guimarães is the Sá
Carneiro International Airport (in Porto), around 50 Km away from
both cities.
Bus line number 56 takes you from the airport to Porto centre (every 20 minutes). You can also take the Aerobus, an express bus that will take you directly from the airport to Porto centre (every 30 minutes), without unnecessary stops. This bus is available Monday to Friday from 9am until 7pm. From the city centre there is a number of possibilities for you to get to Braga and Guimarães: bus and train. Please, contact our GRI in order to obtain more detailed information concerning timetables or check it at the ‘International Student Guide’ of Universidade do Minho. Should you wish to take a taxi from the airport to Braga or Guimarães: the journey takes approximately 40 min. (Braga)/ 60 min. (Guimarães) and the fare is around 45€ /50€. |
